Local governments have been at the forefront of the surging movement to ward off oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Florida Gulf shores in order to protect the vital economic drivers of clean beaches and coastal ecosystems.  Now local governments can promote a positive alternative to offshore drilling by advancing clean electric vehicles (EVs). EVs use no gasoline or oil - thus reducing the demand - while also reducing air pollution, protecting public health, and saving money with lower fuel and maintenance costs. Local leaders can make an enduring impact by setting goals for EV adoption and by implementing policies and strategies to accelerate the transition to efficient electric transportation. By supporting electric transportation options, coastal municipalities will help their communities preserve and protect their coastal identity, reduce pollution, improve public health, and save money.

Electric vehicles can completely offset any gasoline that could be produced from currently protected offshore areas.

Electric vehicles save money for our communities.

Electric vehicles protect public health and the environment.

Local governments can adopt a number of pro-EV policies and programs to meet electric transportation goals. The Municipal Policy Toolkit is a catalog of successful solutions that have been implemented in other communities to accelerate electric transportation systems.
